![]() | Droid-war by Happy Droids Droid-War is a Qix style arcade game where you have to move your droid around the screen drawing squares to claim that area. There are enemy droids in the main area, as well as other droids that parade the perimeter and game items that pop up to increase speed or freeze the enemy all together. The developers say its an addictive game and they're not kidding. Each new level seems to bring in new challenges and you're always keen to see what else they can throw at you. Game play can be a little stuttery on older devices and occasionally we found some areas wouldn't fill in so would need a second line drawing but on the whole this game is a worthwhile addition to your mobile games collection. |

| Zen Gardener Free by OrangeOtter Simple puzzle game, all you have to do is to rake the sand and leave the requested number of crossovers - actually though its not that simple and its not long before things start getting difficult. Touch controls can feel a little awkward at first, but once you get use to the way the game works its fine. Graphics are simple and work well, there's no sound but that just adds to the peacefulness of Zen gardener. There's a standard Ad bar at the top of the screen which is cool, its not intrusive and if it keeps the game free then we're all in favour of this form of advertising. | ![]() | ||||||||||||||
| Gold Miner by tom.lzl Gold Miner has been done many times on many different platforms, its a bit different to your space invaders style games so is worth a look if you've not seen it before. You have to sling your hook to grab as much gold, diamonds and loot as you can before the time runs out. The graphics in this version are good, action is smooth and the sound is good. Its not always obvious how you progress to the next level, sometimes you win without getting a single piece of gold. Other times I cleared the entire screen but still failed to progress. Its an addictive little game and I found myself still playing it long after my allocated review time! | ![]() | ||||||||||||||

Spot the difference -
animals by coRa
Games This one is aimed squarely at the younger generation, saying that I enjoyed playing with it so perhaps it brings out your inner kid. Graphics are cute, sound is peaceful and there's zero pressure so good for anybody with a heart condition ;-) The only downside is that you only get 2 free pictures, after that you have to upgrade to get the rest of the scenes which I assume most people will not bother with. The only reliability issue we found was that it can get stuck loading the locked scenes as it tries to connect to google play, we just need a time out in there so it won't wait forever. So this version is good for a taster only, you'll need to buy the full version if you want any more. |

Evil Fire Dragon
by roadkings There's something hypnotic about the way the Evil Fire Dragon almost swims through the air attacking the mediaeval city causing madnes, mayhem and destruction. The really nice twist is that you play the part of the evil dragon doing all the destructing! Graphics are brilliant with catapults, cannons and floating mediaeval galleons. The touch controls can be little slow to respond at times but overall are acceptable. The sound is good, although annoyingly it keeps playing even after the app has closed down, a simple fix when the developers get around to it. Yes, we like the evil fire dragon and keenly look forward to the developer's next great app. |

Tank Wars Classic
by PunkHorse Back in the days of the BBC micro, Commodore 64 and ZX81 games like this ruled, all keen computer geeks above a certain age will remember this type of game with its low quality graphics and simple game play. But does it have a place in the modern world of hi-tech gaming ? You bet ya! Sound is simple and functional, touch control works fine and there are not any annoying adverts - always a plus. Without games like this in the 1980's we wouldn't have games like Angry Birds today, so for that reason alone its work a look. |

Rail Crisis
by qmStudio I never liked train sets as a kid, no I always preferred the manic excitement brought about by being slightly out of control of a Scalextric slot car. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to actually like this game, its not manic but I do get that same feeling of being slightly out of control of the tiny train that chugs across my phone's screen. The essence of the game is very simple, you need to set the points on the rails to get the train safely back to its destination. Its simple, its fun and its slightly addictive, so even if you don't like trains give it a go. |

Bugatti Veyron Parking
by nathanrdtom Something a bit different, parking a Veyron rather than racing it around a track, but what the heck. The graphics are just about okay, if it wasn't for the name of the app you wouldn't recognise the car, but the parking lots are nice. Unfortunately we couldn't get on with the controls at all, trying to go forward or reverse does nothing unless you also move the steering wheel. Trying to move the steering only adds to the confusion since it doesn't do what you want, it makes parking a real challenge! Much more fun was just driving around (very slowly), we did find you can just drive off the edge of the screen though and then the car will never be seen again. Sorry we can't really recommend this game at present, the controls are painful and its very slow. We hope the developers release an update addressing the steering issues and making the game more playable. |

Angry Bots
by HeraGameStudios & Unity The graphics in this game are STUNNING, it doesn't deserved to be played on a phone it deserves to be played on a 52" top of the range LED TV. Its a third person shooter game, you wonder around a high tech base blasting killer robots. Unfortunately you are going to need a blisteringly quick phone to play the game, on anything less the frame rate drops down to a few frames per second. Give it another 6-12 months for phone hardware to catch up and it wont be a problem. Unity is a game development tool and Angry Bots was written by Unity Technologies to demonstrate its capabilities, and wow is it capable. We're going to have to mark down game play and reliability since it struggles on most average phones, but if you have a top of the range device, download this game now! |

Run Stickman Run
byAcadem Media Free game, no ads - that's what we like to see. The hand draw stick man running around also looks neat, unfortunately that's where the good news finishes. We found the game unplayable on many of our test devices, with touch controls not responding or at best with a 3 second delay. There's not even an option to restart a game, you have to close the app and reload it again. We'd like to see this game working properly, if and when the developers sort out the controls it will be worth downloading until then sadly we have to suggest you give it a miss. |

Galaxy Warships
by Woolapp This is an old skool blast'em style arcade game, one of those with hundred of bullets floating around that must be avoided. Graphics and sound are good, although it runs a little slowly on our HTC desire test device. Adverts are courtesy of Airpush, we're not sure about these just yet as adverts can be pushed to your phone even when the game is not running and users will not know where they are coming from. When you first install the game, it does tell you how to opt out however most users won't even bother to read the pop up. So download and have a play, but remember to opt out of the ads if you find them too intrusive. |

Sci-Fi Heroes
by Majesco Entertainment There has been some major work gone into this game, this one has not been knocked up by some kid in his bedroom. The graphics are really cool, beautiful backdrops and nice character animation. You head a team of 4 sc-fi heroes and do battle against all foes. There are weapon upgrades, you can select different team members, there are stacks of levels and useful help tips as well. Its a well thought out game and is sure to do really well. The game crashed on us once and it can take a while to change between levels, but on the whole an excellent game. |

Crazy Elephant
by X.X_MASS_DEVELOPER With a catchy name and cute icon this game is half way there already. Its a gravity based game, the elephant has to fire bowling balls into the air to knock down the birds - don't ask me why I only work here. Game play is simple in the same guise as angry birds in that you decide on the direction and speed to lob the projectile, a bowling ball in this case. Graphics are quite simple, though they work well. Aiming can be difficult but all adds to the game play. Sound is okay, and there were no reliability issues. Yes we like the crazy elephant. |

Exotic Cars Desert Race
by Martin the free fun game creator :) This is a simpe side scrolling race game, it crashed first time we loaded it but with many games if you try it a second time it will work. You have to avoid other cars and collect trophies to gain more points and unlock other cars. Sounds okay, touch control are responsive but there are a lot of adverts. Developers need to generate revenue to be able to produce more games, but too many will put players off so there's a fine balance to strike. |

Gl Tron Fun by
nopukachi There are lots of different versions of GLtron on lots of different platforms, see www.gltron.org for details. The developer, nopukachi, has ported it quite nicely across to android for us. Based on the light cycles from the fabulous film - Tron, the aim of the game is simply to be the last player riding. It took me a few goes to get to grips with the game, but it was worth persisting. If you race alone its pretty uninspiring, so make sure you chase the other light cycles to get the best from this game. The sound is good, controls respond well although we had the occasional hang up on slower devices. I normally remove games from my personal phone after testing, but I think I'll keep this one on for a bit! |

Air Fighters - 3D Combat by
ArgCondor This game has lots of good reviews on google play with 5 star ratings, unfortunately that was not our experience. The game is just too darn fast, even on level one we couldn't last more then around 10 seconds. You can't see the enemy planes, rockets, or missiles and you just seem to blow up for no reason. Sorry we can't really recommend this one unless the developers slow things down, perhaps give a radar view so you can follow what is going on. It does have potential, and we'd be keen to see an updated version with improved game play. |

Cards Get 15 by
xTijer Games, This is our first card game review for a while, there are lots and lots to choose from in this often overlooked category. The aim of the game is simple, make 15 using your cards and the ones in the center of the er ... table. Up to 4 people can play as well as computer generated opponents. Its a good one to play with your kids since its quite educational in it own way teaching basic maths skills and if you play with Help on you'll always know if its possible to make 15. The game was relaible, easy to touch and move the cards with no stuttering. Graphics are simple and effective, cards easy to read even on smaller mobile devices. The sound is very basic, but lets face it its a card game after all. It makes a nice change to those full on arcade games and is quite relaxing. |

Kids Tractor Tipping by
TitanForge This casual little game is aimed squarely at the very young toddler market, specifically at those kiddies that are into Disney's Cars movie. Its not by Disney, the graphics are good enough but obviously not up to the same quality as the movie. Its a very simple game, just tap a tractor and tip it over - and yes your toddler will probably love it. My daughter (now a teenager) didn't find it so enthralling , in fact her exact words were "very, very, boring". Don't get us wrong, its a good game but it has it target audience. Now the only problem is that you can't really leave it with your toddler since its all too easy for young Tommy to click on the ads, at this point your toddler stops giggling and starts screaming for tractors, we'd like to see the ability to turn off the ads. |

Qbert by
Sunshine Gamer I remember playing the arcade version of this game as a kid, I was never any good at it and most of my limited pennies when on games like Galaxian, Space Invaders and Defender. So I' looking forward to this review immensely. Before playing, Qbert informed me I needed to download the emulator GT Game Master. If you've a regular reader you'll already know how much I hate having to download addition software, I persisted anyway and was glad that I did. So emulator installed and Qbert running, its just like the original and that's because it is running the original source code. It turns out GT Game Master is a Mame emulator, which means it actually runs the original computer program that was written back in the 80's. So Qbert plays exactly like the original, except its on a tiny screen, its fast enough but the sound can be a bit crackly at times (emulators generally aren't perfect). And with many, many extra years gaming under my belt, I'm still no good at Qbert! |

Space Bubble Shooter by
Noworriez Studios There are lots of space bubble shooting games out there and we were keen to see if this one meets the mark, or if its just another soapy washout. Its actually quite good, nice graphics, little monsters to encourage good game play or laugh at you when you lose. The sound is good, although it keeps playing even after the app has been closed down which is not so good - hence the low mark for sound. Only other complain is that it bundles other software along with it, which ends up cluttering your phone. We all know that most developers rely on adverts to support their games, but this is just a little intrusive for our liking. Some people don't mind the clobber as long as its free, we would rather see a paid ad-free version. |

Helicopter Attack
by Kadir illeri This game starts off with a gorgeous splash screen, then the main game starts which is almost an anticlimax after the promises of the initial splash. You fly a helicopter across this side scroller shooting anything and everything in your path. Initially I seemed to explode for no reason then I realised after shooting an enemy they leave a smalll blue dot behind which is fatal if you run into it, so keep those eyes peeled. Flying at the very bootom of the screen (under wall level) will keep you safe, but there's not much to shoot down there. The game is a bit stuttery in places, probably suffers from garbage collection issues and it crashed on us once so we submitted the crash report to aid the developer sort the problem. Hopefullly the next version will sort these minor glitches and we'll have a winner. |

Ice Cream Pie Maker
by Play Ink Studio
Get your ice cream fix without the calories in this yummy little app. It's quick and easy to play as it shows you what to press and when to press it, you can choose your own ice cream fillings then decorate with things like balloons and toppings. A lot of the things are locked when you first play the game, but this encourages you to play more to open up the next set of goodies. The best part is that you can eat your pie by clicking it at the end and with zero cals is a dream. This is a love it or leave type of game, teenage yobs into "Call of Duty" wouldn't be caught dead playing it, but variety is the spice of life and we love the fact that these styles of games exist. |

Word Dig
by ChenzoPark.com,
You have to log in using facebook or email each time you play. It's a copy of an immensely popular game called "words with friends" but you can pick your colour tiles and use bombs to get rid of rocks and other objects in your way. You can play with friends on facebook, find someone by email, the game will match you with a random opponent or you can play locally with a friend. If playing remotely you'll need a good internet connection, otherwise game play just stops. As with all these types of games you have to wait for your opponent to move which could take days depending on their playing habbits, on the plus side you can start a new game with someone else. If you like word games, give it a look. |

Roulette Trillionaire HD
by Silicon Sapphire Ltd
This game is difficult to play, we're unsure what to press and the free version its plagued with too many ads popping up in the middle of the game. You can get trophies depending on how much you win on the game, the roulette wheel is small and the numbers aren't clear enough to read. You click which chip you want and put it where you want but it doesn't always go in the right place. You click the round arrow to spin the wheel but it's not clear which number it lands on. So not one for smaller devices with limited screen sizes, but better on larger phones and tablets. |

Pixel Ninja
by I AM Game Inside
You are the ninja dressed in black and have to fight those dressed in red, the game is easy to play and the shows you how many enemies you to have to kill. Its another of those pixelated retro games that are very much back in fashion at the moment, it looks good. You start with 3 lives and there are 100 red ninja you have to beat. The movement of the ninjas is simple, he can walk forwards, backwards, up and down. He has two attacks a punch which is the M key and a kick which is the A key. The controls are easy to use. There's no sound while you are fighting in game play. Some of our testers couldn't make it to the end of level 1, and suggested the levels should be shorter, ha wimps! |

Monkey Go Happy
by Unter Uns Monkey Go Happy is simple but appealing game for kids (or younger adults), you just need to make the monkey happy by solving various small puzzles and quests. The text is small, too small to see without zooming in and the buttons are small and quite difficult to press. We found the sound simple and a little repetitive, but the kids will probably like it. We did like the graphics though, very cute! The puzzles are not difficult and you have a timer countdown, its not always obvious what you need to do, but hey its a puzzle game! The game has some reliability problems with a few players on google play complaining of issues, once the developers address these its certainly worth a look for partents with younger kiddies. |

Farmyard
by Impossible Visions Farmyard has some beautiful 3d graphics, there's a couple of simple games and a play time section. Our favourite bit is the singing duck which is just Awesome and could easily star in his own breakaway app. The user interface is a little clunky, sometimes its not possible to get back to the main menu and the text can be a little hard for younger players. The game was also a little slow on a HTC desire, but acceptable. Once again the graphics are fab, fix the minor user interface issues and we are sure it will be a big hit. |

Jetpack Space Rider
by Android apps team This is a simple little side scrolling game set in a space station, the aim of the game is to fly across the space station as far as possible avoiding rockets, forcefields and other surprises. There's only 1 control which give lift and forward motion. Once moving there's no way to adjust your speed, you keep moving at the same rate and are basically just controlling the vertical movement with the jet pack. The attacking missiles seem to home in on your location, so its wise to keep changing altitude. Its well worth collecting the floating diamonds since these will let you continue the game from the same place. All in all a nice little app, it probably won't hold your attention for to long but the action is smooth and there are no reliability issues so worth a look. |
